4 Simple DIY Arts & Crafts Projects for Long Road Trips

Crafts are a great way to fill the time, especially when your kids are bored on a long road trip. The only problem, though, is that arts and crafts projects tend to be as messy as they are entertaining. But with a little planning and creativity, you can still make it work. Take a look at these four craft project ideas.

Make Mod Podge Glitter Accessories

Your kids can do all sorts of craft projects with Mod Podge. It’s a cool product that can act as a glue, a sealant, and a hardener. Mod Podge is most commonly used for decoupage crafts, but there are countless other uses for it. For instance, you can add some glitter to Mod Podge and then make anything sparkle — shoes, bags, hair accessories, etc.

Just make sure you bring along a large tub of clean-up wipes for the glue and a dust-buster for the glitter; otherwise your car’s upholstery will pay the price. You’ll also want to ventilate the car while doing these crafts.

Repurpose Old Clothing into Something New

Instead of throwing out old clothes, you can make changes to them to add new life. For instance, your kids can use the fabric from an old blouse to sew a new dress or add fun patches to an old pair of jeans.

Of course, you won’t have a sewing machine in the car, so you and your kids will be hand-sewing your new creations. The trick here is to keep it simple – only short, fun projects can be done within the car and don’t require a great deal of precision.

And be sure to bring some car-sickness medicine for your little ones just in case. Any activity that involves sustained concentration can invoke motion sickness.

Start a Scrapbook of All Your Adventures

Scrapbooks are a great way to showcase memories, even while the memories are being made. So during a road trip in your MINI of Baltimore certified pre-owned car, for example, you and your children can create a scrapbook for all your fun adventures. That way, it will be ready for photos as soon as you get to your nearest printer; or if you have a Polaroid-style digital camera like the Socialmatic, you can fill the scrapbook as the memories are being made!

Make Jewelry Out of Ordinary Objects

The best jewelry is unique and personal to the person wearing it. You can create your own jewelry to match any outfit in your closet. There are several aisles of beads and jewels at craft stores, but you can use ordinary items like paperclips and bottle caps, too.

Not unlike the Mod Podge idea above, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of cleanup supplies on hand – particularly if you’re using glue. And again, you’ll want to be sure the car is well-ventilated when you’re doing these crafts.

Watch Out for Food Network’s Chopped All-Stars!

Do you enjoy cooking? Do you like watching chefs competing for the best dish? You can watch all of that any more in the third season of Food Network Chopped All Stars. Starting Sunday, April 7 at 9PM ET/PT, you can watch the five-part series with its various challenges, eliminations, and grand finale. Winner will receive $50,000 and become known as the All-Star champion. Many of these chefs are competing to donate for the charity they represent as well as have boasting rights in the public eye. “Chopped All-Stars raises the stakes of our popular franchise by pitting fiercely competitive food stars, and for the first time, celebrities, against each other,” tells Bob Tuschman, General Manager and Senior Vice President Programming, Food Network. “These stars use their culinary prowess to battle it out for their charities and bragging rights for winning this all-star competition.”

Travel to the Constellation Ursa Minor

Small constellation Ursa Minor contains only 25 stars visible to the naked eye. It is not particularly bright nebulae or galaxies, and it contains no star clusters. But the constellation is good because it can be observed at any time of year. Constellations Big and Little Dipper. These constellations are known to all by the characteristic stellar figures representing them. This, of course, will focus on the Big and Small Buckets. In this photo, we see that the shape of animals take up much more space than the buckets. Pictures of bears are taken author J. C. Casado, with engravings XVII century Polish astronomer Jan Hevelius. And the picture was taken in the Canary Islands, on the shore of the island of Lanzarote. In these latitudes the celestial north pole leans heavily World: North Star, mark the end of the tail of the Ursa Minor, is low on the horizon.

The splendid mosaic dominated by two bright stars: Kohab (or beta Ursa Minor) is visible on the right and on the left, at the end of the handle is the famous bucket North Star pointing to the north pole of the world. Thousands of stars – red, blue, yellow – visible in the picture, and among them appeared thin clouds of interstellar dust, which lie above the plane of the Milky Way. They do not highlight any individual stars, but the total light from all the stars in the Galaxy.

North Star – the main attraction of the constellation Ursa Minor. Even in a small telescope near the North Star can see satellite 8.8 eV. magnitude. The photo did not get satellite, since it is too close to the star and gets lost in its rays. But to the left of Polaris perfectly clear ring of stars. This asterism known diamond ring, which will be discussed below

The galaxy NGC 6217 in the constellation Ursa Minor. NGC 6217 belongs to a class of crossed helices: arms of the galaxy is not moving away from the nucleus, and extended from the bridge. While spiral galaxies are bright and wide, indicating that the place in which a rapid process of star formation. The galaxy NGC 6217 is located 80 million light-years from Earth. Galaxy can be seen in telescopes and binoculars with an aperture of more than 80 mm

Another attraction of the Little Dipper – asterism called Small hanger. (The picture is tilted to the right.) This is a small copy of the famous asterism in the constellation Vulpecula hanger. Small size hangers are small, only 20 minutes of arc, and the stars that make up this asterism are 11.9 stellar magnitudes

Diamond Ring Little Dipper. This asterism, also known as the engagement ring, includes several stars 9.10 magnitude. Stars form a ring in which the diamond is bright North Star. It is best to watch with binoculars asterism with an aperture of 50 mm and more. Dark night far from city lights ring looks very impressive.

This is a dwarf elliptical galaxy UGC 9749 Little Bear, one of the closest companions of our Galaxy. The distance to the star system is only about 200,000 light years – twice the diameter Milky Way by galactic standards UGC 9749 tiny baby: its mass is 10 – 20 million solar masses, and the sizes of a few thousand light-years.

Thin gas and dust nebulae Little Dipper. A small constellation Ursa Minor no large emission nebula, or dark dust clouds, as the constellation is located away from the Milky Way. However, as could be seen from the photo number 2, Ursa Minor permeate subtle, like a veil, gas and dust nebulae. Visually see them almost impossible, and getting a good shot is very hard. The fact that these images require large exposures, so you need to telescope remained completely motionless with respect to this part of the sky
