Meet the cake boos! This man is just creating a wonderful cakes! Cake Boss is a reality television show, airing on TLC, set at Carlo’s Bake Shop in Hoboken, New Jersey. The show stars Buddy Valastro, the shop’s owner, and his family, specifically his mother, four older sisters and three brothers-in-law.
Season one of the show premiered on April 19, 2009, and season two premiered on October 26, 2009. Cake Boss has been renewed for a third season, which is set to premiere sometime in the summer.
The bakery was founded in 1910, over the years it developed a positive reputation for its popular foods, such as cannolis and chocolate chunk cookies. In 1964, Buddy Valastro Sr. and his wife Mary bought the bakery, it continued to “run smoothly”. Before Buddy Sr. died, his son Buddy Jr. told him that the latter would run the bakery. He currently does this with his four older sisters, mom, three brothers-in-law, first cousin, a few close family friends, a few of his interns, and Sal Picinich, who has been working at the bakery since Buddy’s parents bought it.
The bakery is featured on Cake Boss, a television program shown on TLC. It generally deals with the bakers’ efforts to make cakes for their customers, but also sometimes features the making of certain other things, such as cannolis and cookies. There have been a total of two seasons and thirty episodes of the show.
Buddy Valastro, a.k.a. the Cake Boss, is a 4th generation baker who runs Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop, a 10,000 square-foot state of the art facility where he and his staff turn out thousands of wedding cakes, specialty cakes and pastries every week. He’s got his brothers-in-law on staff, Joey and Mauro (a.k.a. Chef Mario), and his cousin Frankie (Buddy is godfather to his daughter). His sisters manage the store, when they’re not fighting with each other or barking orders, and his wife Lisa works on Saturdays. Think “The Sopranos” meets Betty Crocker.
“We’re Italian; Italians are loud people,” says Valastro. “We’re family there’s going to be fights.”
But this is not Valastro’s first time at the rodeo having recently won the Food Network Challenge “Battle of the Brides” on March 22nd. His cakes are pretty famous too. He made a circus-themed one for Britney Spears’ 27th birthday and one for the TV show “The Sopranos.” His creations have also been featured on “Good Morning America,” “The View,” the “Today” show and countless bridal and baking magazines.
